Manchester United slayer Roony Bardghji is one of the top targets for Chelsea in January transfer window
Chelsea enters the race with several top European clubs in signing Copenhagen’s Roony Bardghji. The youngster grabbed headlines after scoring the winning goal against Manchester United in the UCL group stage.
The 18-year-old is pursued by Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal and Aston Villa. Roony signed a contract extension with the club in January 2023. Despite being a first-team prospect, the youngster isn’t a regular with the Danish club.
He has featured in just three Champions League clashes for Copenhagen in the group stage. However, his cameo has earned him enough plaudits. Copenhagen managed to grab a point in their previous face-off with Manchester United. The history was about to repeat in the second round, however, Bardghji had other plans.
He became the youngest player ever to score against Manchester United in the Champions League and also Copenhagen’s youngest-ever goal scorer in the contest. Roony Bardghji is a super-sub for the Danish side, who has come up big late into the game on numerous occasions.
Chelsea’s pursuit of another young talent
According to ESPN (h/t Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport), Roony Bardghji will be targetted by Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. The winger can be a strong addition to the lineup, considering the shambles Chelsea is in.
Mauricio Pochettino has been dealing with the injury of his players and also suspensions constantly. This leaves him with backup options and constant changes in strategy. The Kuwait-born forward can bring in a much-needed competition with the club.
Pochettino recently expressed his disappointment about his players’ discipline. Should Roony choose the West London club, he will be joining the ranks of a full-fledged youth setup. Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon is another target chased by Chelsea.
