Alan Shearer slams ‘weak’ Chelsea star for his role in Manchester United goal

Bayern Munich considering shock swoop for homegrown Chelsea defender

Alan Shearer lambasts Chelsea centre-back Levi Cpolwill poor defending against Scott McTominay’s second goal

In Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea, Alan Shearer chastised Levi Colwill’s performance. In the 69th minute, Scott McTominay scored the second goal for the Blues, which appeared to be the game-deciding goal.

McTominay tussled with Colwill at the back post to head the ball home, which was awarded a fair goal despite the Chelsea center-back falling on the ground. The Blues couldn’t mount a comeback and endured a disappointing loss after a 3-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

United were handed an early chance to find a breakthrough when Bruno Fernandes could convert from the spot, but the low Portuguese effort saw Robert Sanchez parry the ball away.

With plenty of chances coming their way, United were finally put ahead by Scott McTominay in the 19th minute, but Cole Palmer leveled the score in the 45th minute.

It was a head-to-head game, and both sides had ample chances of scoring more goals. Still, it was United who scored first when Alejandro Garnacho found McTominay at the back post to head the ball home, and this disappointed Shearer given how Colwill was allowed to get the better of him and score the second goal, (h/t Metro) as he told on Amazon Prime Video:

”It’s really weak defending there from Colwill. You can see the both of them were at it; they’ve both got their arms on each other there. It went to VAR, but it was never a foul; it was never going to be enough to be turned over. The defender should be dealing with it there.”

It was an easy effort from McTominay. Colwill should be conscious of his marking as a defender. However, the team as a whole performed badly and missed many openings. We had numerous opportunities to tie the score despite their lead, but we were lifeless in front of goal as usual, which will hinder our progress in the future.

Colwill knows it was silly of him and should have done better but he will learn from that mistake. He is a great center-back and has been trusted by Mauricio Pochettino. He will only get better from here.
