Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana has returned to grass training after knee surgery
According to Evening Standard, Wesely Fofana has finally started grass training as he now enters the next phase of injury recovery after sustaining a knee injury before the start of the pre-season.
The defender then underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, which kept him out for four months before he started his grass training.
Fofana was likely to remain out until the end of the entire season, but his quick recovery will be a welcome boost for Chelsea, who are mired in injuries.
Fofana also spent the majority of the last season with an injury and has struggled to remain consistent for the Blues since joining them from Leicester City for £75 million.
Now that Fofana is back in grass training, Chelsea fans will be optimistic that he will return to action before the end of this campaign. However, Chelsea will not take a risk with the centre-back given his history of injuries.
Pochettino didn’t need to be concerned, though, because the Blues had depth in defence, even though the Frenchman sustained an injury prior to the start of the new campaign.
When he returns to full fitness, Fofana will be aiming to get back to the starting lineup, but we still have a lot of time and must be patient until he rebounds completely.
Fofana’s injury history has been unfortunate. He also had a knee injury the previous season, and during the preseason at Leicester, he broke his leg, which kept him out for the majority of the 2021–2022 season. He has a history of injuries at a young age, which is concerning for the defender. It’s not nice to have another knee issue, so maybe the Blues will be careful with him this time.

Being an excellent centre-back, he will undoubtedly strive to start for us on a regular basis after his comeback, and maybe in the future, he could be a great Thiago Silva replacement.
