A View From The Bridge

Two left-backs including Alphonso Davies on Chelsea’s shortlist

Chelsea have targeted Alphonso Davies and Valentin Barco for left-back position

According to journalist Simon Phillips’ substack (subscription required), Chelsea are keen on signing Alphonso Davies and Valentin Barco of Boca Juniors. The London club is already planning their winter transfer moves and has listed Davies and Barco as potential signings to fill their left-back spot.

The Blues are looking to reinforce their left-back position, with Marc Cucurella the only available option for the club currently while Ben Chilwell recovers from an injury. Meanwhile, Ian Maatsen has been barely used this season. Pochettino has deployed Levi Colwill and Cucurella in the left-back position.

The Blues have been informed to keep an eye on the situation since Davies, who has been at Bayern for five years, is about to enter the final year of his contract next season and has not yet extended it.

The Canadian fullback will be a quality signing, given that he will reinforce the attack. He also started playing in Europe when he was just 19 and won the Champions League in 2020.

Since Davies has a wealth of exposure and a player of his quality doesn’t take long to make the transition to a new league. He seems like a solid option. Valentin Barco, on the other hand, is currently a Boca Juniors player, so adapting to the Premier League will take time.

The Blues are looking to add Davies, another quality left-back, to their roster in addition to Cucurella and Colwill. Chilwell is not dependable due to his many injuries, while Cucurella has shown flashes of performance.

Maatsen hasn’t been deployed enough, and Chelsea are thinking about selling him in January, so his future there is still questionable. Bayern will undoubtedly want a high price for their star player, so we’ll have to wait and see. Davies, at just 22, would be a beneficial addition if we managed to get him.
