The Premier League once again delivered a classic as Pochettino led Chelsea FC drew with Manchester City
While there have been many entertaining football matches in the past, the Premier League added another one to the tally when Mauricio Pochettino led Chelsea to battle Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday night.
After eight goals in the contest last night, Chelsea and Manchester City were forced to settle for a 4-4 tie. With two formidable teams vying for three points, it was one of the finest games of the season. City were clearly the stronger team going into this match, but Chelsea refused to capitulate and went toe-to-toe with the reigning Premier League winners.
Erling Haaland put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead in the 27th minute of the game, but Thiago Silva levelled the score in the 29th minute. Raheem Sterling then put Chelsea in front in the 37th minute before Manuel Akanji levelled the score.
It was a long-night goal-galore contest as Haaland was once again on the scoresheet to put City ahead, but Nicolas Jackson cancelled his goal in the 67th minute. Rodri’s goal in the 86th minute appeared to give City the victory, but a penalty to Chelsea in the 95th minute saw both sides share the spoils on the night.
Pochettino was convinced by Chelsea’s performance and said these matches indicate why the Premier League is one of the best leagues, he further told Chelsea’s website:
”We are coaching staff who have experience, but this type of game happens because you face a team like City, but with a Chelsea team that wants to win and wants to be protagonists. Afterwards, everyone is so proud to be involved and see a game like today. These games are why people say the Premier League is the best league in the world.”
The English Premier League is unmatched in terms of match excitement, and this season featuring a total of eight goals between City and Chelsea could go down as one of the games of the campaign. It is not surprising that City scored so many goals, but we were just as good and faced them head-to-head, demonstrating how much we have progressed under Pochettino.

With this performance, we set a precedent about the level of performance expected for the remainder of the season. This demonstrates how we are gradually improving in every aspect and how the players displayed their own personalities in the face of such a formidable opponent. Hopefully, the last two games will act as a sliding doors moment for us in the long run.
