“That’s where he should be used by Chelsea”- Pundit tells Mauricio Pochettino where to play Cole Palmer

Glen Johnson asks Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to use Cole Palmer in central area of field

Glen Johnson has suggested to Mauricio Pochettino where to use Cole Palmer during the games. The former Chelsea star feels Palmer is more lively in a central position than on the side.

Palmer is enjoying a productive time at the London club, having scored four goals since joining from Manchester City. He has now established himself as one of the most crucial components under Mauricio Pochettino.

But Johnson feels Chelsea will become a more threatening side if the Argentine manager utilises the 21-year-old centrally. Conor Gallagher has currently occupied that place and is having his own impressive season.

It is unlikely Palmer will be moved to the central area; he has remained an effective player operating from the right, but Johnson feels if he functions from the middle of the pitch, his creativity will be more effective.

The former Blues star was speaking to Squawka and gave his thoughts on where Pochettino should use Cole Palmer, (h/t Metro) he said:

‘’Cole Palmer has been doing great. He’s obviously got a great mentality about stepping up for penalties and performing against his old team. I prefer to see him in the middle, behind the striker. At the moment, I don’t think he’s quick or strong enough to be isolated  one-on-on with defenders and is best receiving it on the half turn and being clever with his passes into strikers.”

Palmer is a flexible player who can operate behind the striker as well as from the wings. Johnson is right when he says that he will be more of an innovative player capable of feeding the striker balls. Palmer isn’t fast, but his dribbling allows him to get past opponents. However, he has been successful and has been given many opportunities.

He shifts positions and inverts himself inside the pitch throughout games so that he can be more dangerous. Palmer will be used in a variety of roles going forward, as Pochettino is aware of this.
