Report: West Ham United could reignite pursuit of Chelsea striker

Chelsea in a "war" to sign 25-year-old PSG target by June 30

Chelsea could allow Armando Broja to leave in order to sign Victor Osimhen

West Ham United could once again rekindle their interest in Armando Broja as the Blues could consider selling the forward to free up some funds to sign Victor Osimhen.

According to Football.London, (h/t The Sun) the Blues are open to sanctioning the sale of the Albanian forward to increase their chances of signing their top target next summer.

The exit of Borja will free up some funds, which will help them sign Osimhen. The 22-year-old has struggled to remain fit after recently returning from an injury relapse.

Osimhen has long been Chelsea’s top target because they believe he can help them with their goal-scoring instability. The Mauricio Pochettino team is beginning to show some threat in front of the goal, but Osimhen’s acquisition is going to boost our threat level.

The Nigerian forward has also hinted at a move to Stamford Bridge, which could allow the Blues to sacrifice one of their strikers for his signing.

Broja, who was targeted by several Premier League clubs last season, could once again ignite their interest. West Ham United were among the clubs keen on signing him and had their £30 million bid rejected in 2022.

The Blues are confident they can sign Osimhen, whose contract is set to expire in 2025. It remains to be seen, as we have a long way to go for the next summer window and anything can happen.

Even if we don’t sell Broja and sign Osimhen, the Albanian will face a tough time getting enough minutes on the pitch given that he is behind Nicolas Jackson in the pecking order. If he doesn’t get sufficient game time, it will only disrupt his growth. At some point, he will want to move away to continue playing.

So it seems obvious that if we sign Osimhen, we ought to let go of Broja. Since both Senegalese and Nigerian players are young and will likely compete for a starting berth, it doesn’t make sense to keep Broja. Mauricio Pochettino will likely aim to offer both players equal playing time.
