Report: Chelsea will have to sacrifice seven-figure fee if Diego Moreira is recalled from Lyon in January

Chelsea could register deficits if they cancel Diego Moreira’s loan spell from Olympique Lyon

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea could record a £2.5million deficit if they cancel the loan move of Diego Moreira from Olympique Lyon after the Brazilian has made only three appearances this season so far.

The Blues could bring the Brazilian back to the club in the January window, given his disappointing minutes on the pitch. Moreira was signed from Benfica and sent on loan to the Ligue 1 club.

But his lack of minutes on the pitch has concerned Chelsea, and now bringing him back is the only available option. However, the Brazilian is unlikely to challenge for a spot in the starting lineup given that the Blues are stacked with enough players in his position.

Chelsea could incur losses if they bring back Diego Moreira from loan spell.

Another loan spell to a different club could be on the cards for the 19-year-old in January. A similar situation will happen with Andrey Santos, who has barely played for Nottingham Forest since his loan move to the Steve Cooper side. The Blues will also call him back by activating a clause in his contract.

Both Santos and Moreira are in their 19s and haven’t had a chance to prove their mettle at the current club. It’s obviously disappointing given the talent they boast, and Chelsea were hoping that both players would receive nurturing at their respective clubs, but that hasn’t been the case.

Chelsea will now look for a team where Moreira will have assured playing time since they don’t want to watch such ability go to waste while he sits on the sidelines.

We will be facing financial consequences should we recall him from Lyon, therefore we will need to make a sound decision or wait for the entire season to see if receives enough minutes on the pitch.

The attacker played in 24 games for the Benfica youth team, tallying three goals. After that, he joined the Chelsea youth team, where he featured in three games. After that, he moved to Lyon on loan, where he participated in just three games. Chelsea may have to send him to the youth side, where he can at least play football if they fail to find a club for him in January.
