A View From The Bridge

Real Madrid view Chelsea’s right-back as perfect replacement for Dani Carvajal

Real Madrid are keen on signing Chelsea captain Reece James

Real Madrid remain interested in signing Chelsea captain Reece James and want him to replace their ageing right-back Dani Carvajal.

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, (h/t The Sun) the 23-year-old has impressed Carlo Ancelotti as they plot a summer move for him.

People at Real believe James can imitate his compatriot Jude Bellingham’s success in the Spanish capital. Real wants to replace their stalwart Carvajal, who has been a consistent starter for the club for over a decade.

However, James has no intention of leaving his boyhood club, and his contract runs until 2027. Even if Blue decides to sell him, they will certainly demand a high price.

The West Londoners will continue to offload more players next window due to their current financial struggles. Hopefully, James won’t be among them, as he is part of the club’s project under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, his frequent injuries could change the club’s mind after the right-back finally returned with another injury, which he picked against Liverpool. James has had a difficult season due to injuries, which has carried into this one. If this trend continues this term, Chelsea should be apprehensive.

Real sees James as the perfect successor to Dani Carvajal.

This will start raising questions about whether he will be a reliable player for the Blues, given that Malo Gusto has quickly adjusted due to James’ absence. Hopefully, this will not be the case, and James is fully fit to feature throughout this season because we know clubs will be ready to pounce on his signing if he is made available in the market.

Real have consistently obtained players from us for little or no cost. We can’t let that happen again, and even in the unlikely event that the West Londoners choose to sell him, they ought to ask for a high price. But let’s hope we never find ourselves in a position where we have to sell our finest player.
