Chris Waddle questioned Chelsea and their commitment in their frustrating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United. The Blues displayed one of their poor performances of the season and deservingly lost the match.

The Magpies opened the scoring through Alexander Isak in the 13th minute, but 10 minutes later, Raheem Sterling cancelled the Isak goal. It appeared to be an intense game, but Jamal Lascelles’s goal in the 60th minute saw Tyneside turn up the heat on the Blues.

From there, Chelsea never recovered after Thiago Silva’s massive error, which led to their third goal in the 61st minute, and Anthony Gordon summed up Chelsea’s night with a goal in the 83rd minute.

With this performance, we are never finishing in the top four—forget the top four—not even in the top 10. It was just the sort of game where every individual was at fault.

Chelsea were battered and embarrassed and couldn’t do much in the game. It was one of the most frustrating losses of the season, (h/t BBC) Waddle questioned the club’s performance and said:

“Two teams played today. Newcastle turned up, and Chelsea didn’t. When it comes to a battle, Pochettino has to look at his team and wonder who is up for the fight. It was a comfortable win before the send-off. I think Chelsea are a million miles away from that top four.”

Despite our recent improvements, we have been playing awful in defence and giving up early in the game. We have a lot of things to work on if we want to continue being an integrated group. We can’t lose in this manner because a draw against Manchester City and a victory over Tottenham Hotspur would make sense.
