A View From The Bridge

“It’s not” – Mauricio Pochettino says ‘Tottenham’ factor does not make Chelsea win extra special

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea win was not more special because it was against Tottenham

The Tottenham Hotspur supporters showered Mauricio Pochettino with applause when he arrived at the stadium of his former team. After a lively battle, the Pochettino side took three points home. Chelsea rallied to a 4-1 win despite going down in the fifth minute of the game when Dejan Kulusevski curled the ball in.

There was a series of incidents before Chelsea equalised in the 35th minute from the penalty spot. The Blues slowly hit their rhythm when Cristian Romero was sent off.

Tottenham Hotspur were then reduced to nine men when Destiny Udogie was sent off for a second booking. This saw Spurs play a high-line with nine men.

Chelsea duly punished them as they doubled their lead, with Nicolas Jackson producing a hattrick, handing the Blues a sumptuous win over their London rivals.

After the game, Pochettino spoke at the post-match press conference and revealed what the win meant to him, (h/t Mirror), he said:

“I am so happy because the points mean a lot to us. We are in a situation where we need to win points. I am so happy because we came back and showed people that we had positivity. For me, the most important thing is the three points. It’s Tottenham, but it’s not more special because of that.”

Chelsea’s win handed Tottenham their first defeat of the season.

Pochettino managed Sprus for five years and had many memories with clubs in those seasons, it is apparent that he respects his club and always will, even though he is now the manager of a different team. This makes sense, as it is common for managers and players to harbour fond memories of their former teams.

More importantly, though, we prevailed and gave them their first loss of the season. Even though our performance may not have impressed many, the Argentine manager will undoubtedly correct his faults and prepare the squad for their next big game against Manchester City.
