Peter Crouch suggests Chelsea sign Ivan Toney
Peter Crouch has recommended Chelsea sign Ivan Toney as an upgrade on Cole Palmer. Palmer was acquired last summer and has since scored two goals for the Blues.
However, Palmer often acts as an orchestra, operating behind the striker and feeding him the ball. So Toney and Palmer’s positions are completely different.
Currently, we don’t have a prolific centre-forward who can remain consistent in front of the goal, and Toney is linked with a move to Chelsea, so it gives us every reason to pursue him.
The Brentford striker is currently serving a ban after breaching betting rules and is set to return to action in January. Arsenal are also keen on signing the 27-year-old.
The Bees are aware of the top Premier League club’s interest in Toney and are holding out £60 million for the striker. The England international is open for a move and has also changed agents. Former Stoke City striker Crouch revealed Chelsea should sign an upgrade on Palmer, (h/t Football.London), speaking to TNT Sports, he said:
“I like him [Cole Palmer]. I think he’s good, but I don’t think he’s the answer. I think with Chelsea, as they did against Arsenal, I don’t think he’s the answer. I think they need a traditional number nine.”
“They’ve had Drogba as the main one in recent times, but now they’ve been linked with Ivan Toney. If they can go out and get him, then that’d be absolutely perfect for them because what they have around them is perfect.”
Palmer operates in a very different position compared to a striker; he is the player who feeds strikers to score goals. Palmer can play as an attacking midfielder and behind the striker, so it doesn’t make sense why we need an upgrade on him. We need an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson because right now the Senegalese is far from developed and will need a season or two to hit his strides.

The Toney signing will provide us with that clinical touch in front of the net and will give good competition to Jackson for the starting spot.
