Jamie Carragher says the best thing about Chelsea is Mauricio Pochettino
Jamie Carragher has been taken aback by how Mauricio Pochettino turned Chelsea’s fortunes around in such a short time after a wild 4-4 draw with Manchester City.
This team has been transformed into an overwhelming threat by the Argentine manager, showing great character against the treble champions and battling back to earn a point in an exciting match full of goals.
When you play against Pep Guardiola’s club, which has won three Premier League titles in a row, you are hardly the favourites to win. This team is among the greatest in the world, and it’s always challenging to defeat them.
However, what we witnessed last night was uncommon in the Premier League. The game relieved all kinds of anxiety and was full of turmoil and amusement. Pochettino should be given credit for Chelsea’s display of personality, as he is the driving force behind the team’s transformation into a formidable rival that no longer fears anybody.
Former Liverpool player Carragher duly credited the Argentine manager for turning this club into a competitive side, (h/t Daily Mail) and told Sky Sports:
‘’The best thing about Chelsea right now is Pochettino, not the players or the owners—the manager. That’s the most important thing, man. When you talk about Chelsea getting back to winning trophies, I’m not sure they could have had a better manager that was available. Everything around him has to improve.”
The mentality that Pochettino has ingrained in the players is one of fearlessness and openness to confront any opposition, regardless of their quality. Despite lacking an experienced roster, we are overcoming this season after struggling to win against respectable teams and scoring goals last campaign. However, the players have lately begun to form a unit and demonstrate their ability to take on any team.
