Moises Caicedo talks about how Enzo Fernandez encouraged him to sign with Chelsea
Moises Caicedo opens up about how he joined Chelsea and reveals Enzo Fernandez played a key role in convincing the midfielder to sign with the club.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder was pursued by two Premier League giants. Chelsea and Liverpool went head-to-head in an attempt to see who could offer more money. The Blues eventually trumped the Reds in pursuit of Caicedo.
The Blues ended up scooping the midfielder, breaking the British transfer record by spending £115 million to acquire the 22-year-old. Caicedo has since appeared in 11 games for Chelsea, partnering with Fernandez and Conor Gallagher at the heart of midfield.
However, the Blues should be thanking the Argentine midfielder, who was instrumental in pushing Caicedo to come to Chelsea after the 22-year-old made a quick phone call to encourage him to come to the West London club.
The Ecuadorian midfielder finally revealed how one phone call from a former Benfica midfielder changed his mind about joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side, (h/t Mirror), further telling Sky Sports:
“It was a nice chat. I mean, the fact that a world champion was phoning you, one of the best midfielders in the world, receiving that call was very nice, and he convinced me to come here.”
“He said it was a great club, that there are many young players, and there was a sense of togetherness here. I have always enjoyed the bond in a team because I think that, if there is that bond, we can deal with any situation we may face: pressure, everything. So, that’s what motivated me to come here.”
Fernandez is made for Chelsea. He has contributed so much to the team, both on and off the pitch. He is aware that the Blues went to great lengths to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder because they were desperate for him. The Argentine’s ability to persuade him was crucial, considering that we were experiencing a distinct stage in contrast to Liverpool.
