Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Chelsea’s links with Evan Ferguson and concedes they are just scouting the player and aren’t considering making a move.
The Brighton & Hove Albion striker has taken the Premier League by storm with five goals in 11 matches. He has been the Seagulls’ top striker this season and will have a big impression to make.
His promising progress could soon see the player move to a big Premier League club, with Chelsea and Manchester United already showing interest.
But Romano says the Ireland international is fully committed to the Seagulls and isn’t thinking about a move to any club as Brighton hopes to challenge for the top four seasons.
Brighton are an excellent club for youngsters who can develop there and he would want to spend more time there before he feels he is fully developed and ready to play for a top side in the league. The Italian journalist further stated on Chelsea’s pursuit of Ferguson and revealed on his CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column:
“We keep seeing Brighton’s Evan Ferguson linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. I can confirm that big clubs like these are following Ferguson because he’s a top talent, but it’s just normal scouting and monitoring; it would be surprising if they weren’t keeping an eye on an exciting young player like him.”
Ferguson is still maturing, and if he joins us, we will put pressure on him to score goals in every game, which is unhealthy for a young player who needs gentle guidance and less responsibility. Since he is a Premier League product, he may have adapted to the league well thus far. Right now, we’re increasingly interested in signing Victor Osimhen, and a summer approach seems likely.
Furthermore, negotiating with Brighton regarding their player acquisition is a major pain because we have no idea how much they will ask for the striker this time around—it might be more than Osimhen is worth.
