A View From The Bridge

Garth Crooks names Chelsea star in his team of the week after inspiring display vs Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea summer signing Nicolas Jackson delivers standout performance after weeks of inconsistent results

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Spanish side Villarreal in a £32m deal last summer. However, he had failed to deliver on his high price tag. In his first nine matches for the Blues, he had netted only twice. All that changed on Monday.

Chelsea thrashed Tottenham 4-1 and Jackson was the breakout star in that match. The 22-year-old’s composed hat-trick underscored the exciting potential of Chelsea’s next generation under Mauricio Pochettino.

While Spurs’ indiscipline grabbed headlines, Jackson’s emergence demonstrated Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to youth. This was reflected in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week column in BBC where the Senegal international was selected as the forward.

Ever since Mauricio Pochettino took over, Chelsea are going through a period of substantial change where they have chosen to focus on developing young talents into world-class players. Pochettino has boldly put faith in the young boys since taking over and has finally reaped the rewards.

After a disappointing run so far this season, the Blues have finally handed a statement to fans and critics alike by capitalising on Tottenham’s disarray. But the glowing takeaway was not Spurs’ meltdown. Rather, it was the glimpses of a new Chelsea forged on youth, pace, and hunger after weeks of constant disappointment.

Nonetheless, Chelsea remain a team in transition. There will be bumps along the road this season as their Argentine manager moulds the squad in his image. But the club has clearly embraced a long-term vision focused on amplifying their youth.

Jackson’s emergence underscores the strategy’s immense potential. If Chelsea stay patient and keep developing top talents, a new era of sustained success awaits. Gallagher, Jackson, and Cole Palmer were phenomenal in the Spurs clash.

Come January, Chelsea will be looking to sign a more clinical striker under the leadership of Pochettino. Chelsea have particularly set their sights on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The addition of a powerful forward to a developed Chelsea squad will certainly be a sight to watch if the Stamford Bridge boys maintain their newfound momentum.

Chelsea play Manchester City this Sunday and the Blues’ fans will now certainly be looking forward to it. Hopefully, Jackson will make use of the upsurge in confidence to put together a purple patch.
