Arsenal have provided Chelsea with a clear path to the signing of Ivan Toney, as the Blues plot a January move for the England international.
According to Calciomercato, (h/t Football. London), the Gunners have shifted their focus to signing Benjamin Sesko and have approached his representative about a potential move to North London.
This gives Chelsea an easy route to pursue Toney, who is open to leaving Brentford once his betting ban is lifted in January. The 27-year-old has already drawn interest from top Premier League clubs and will soon have to decide his next destination.
Toney has started training despite the ban and has also played some behind-closed-doors friendlies in the last few months to build his fitness before returning to action.
Chelsea’s goalscoring woes have been evident this season, and they would like to land a proven No. 9. They have also targeted Victor Osimhen, but a winter move is questionable.
Although a transfer for Toney looks likely because the Bees are prepared to offload their star striker and are asking for £80 million, now it remains to be seen if the Blues are willing to pay that much.
New signing Nicolas Jackson hasn’t been productive, while Armando Broja isn’t fully fit, so signing another striker is logical for Chelsea; otherwise, their lack of potency in front of the goal will continue.
They now have no team to battle to sign Toney and should take advantage of it soon before other teams express interest. Toney is the perfect signing for us because he brings so much threat in front of the goal and is a Premier League product. He will join a side that is among the most talented, and his addition will further make us indomitable during attacks.
We can negotiate his asking price with the Bees; although we have enough time, so let’s see how things develop before January.
