Chelsea swap deal involving Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah encounters major hurdle due to Jose Mourinho

Chelsea swap deal with AS Roma hit a snag as Jose Mourinho prefers Tottenham Hotspur centre-back

Chelsea talks over a swap deal with AS Roma might derail as Jose Mourinho prefers to bring Eric Dier instead of Chelsea misfits Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah.

According to Romagiallorossa, (h/t Express) the Roma sporting director is keen on bringing Sarr and Chalobah. The Blues would demand £25 million for Chalobah, but the Serie A outfits are ready to offer Tammy Abraham, which could see a swap deal transpire.

However, Mourinho’s reluctance to bring Chelsea misfits could prevent the deal from taking place, as the former Chelsea manager wants Tottenham’s Eric Dier instead of Chalobah and Sarr.

Dier’s contract situation will make it a more accessible option for Roma, who are looking to reinforce their defensive position. Sarr hasn’t been included in any matchday squads this season so far, and a move is on the cards, while Chalobah is currently injured and might seek a move once he returns, given his way down the pecking order.

The 24-year-old is also monitored by Bayern Munich, which is said to be still interested in bringing the defender to the Bundesliga, where he will be reunited with Thomas Tuchel.

A move to Roma looks uncertain after Mourinho’s stance of bringing the Spurs centre-back. This swap deal also doesn’t make sense for us because why do we need Abraham given that we have Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson?

Abraham has underperformed throughout the last two seasons at Roma; bringing him here will just make matters more difficult, and we’re not sure if he’ll get enough playing time. Selling both Chalobah and Sarr would be preferable to arranging a swap.

If Roma doesn’t want Chalobah, he has lots of other admirers. We’ll have to wait and see, as Bayern might make a play for him in January, but interest will undoubtedly arise. Both Sarr and Chalobah are in their early 20s and should be here regularly, if not regularly.
