Chelsea player Thiago Silva issues an apology after 4-1 loss to Newcastle United

It seemed like an off day for Thiago Silva, who became the oldest Chelsea player at the age of 39, to take on the field yesterday. The Brazilian defender would certainly want to forget an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United, where his mistake proved costly.

The Blues generally endured a poor day, and they were beaten in every way. Silva’s misplaced pass in 63 minutes awarded Newcastle their third goal. It was a massive blunder from the former AC Milan centre-back. From there, Newcastle had complete control of the game as Chelsea failed to find the answers and handed another huge blow.

Silva tried to play Badiashile, but his slow touch saw Joelinton pounce on the mistake, who now made no error by blasting the ball past Robert Sanchez.

Anthony Gordon’s 83rd-minute strike wrapped up the game as Chelsea suffered another disappointing defeat. Silva certainly acknowledged his fault and took to social media, (h/t Daily Mail), where he conveyed his heartfelt apology and wrote:

‘’I’m devastated. It wasn’t a good day for us. I would like to apologise to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day. I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger.”

Silva had to go through one of those days that you just want to erase. That error made his day worse, and he wasn’t feeling well. After that goal, the Magpies had total control of the match, and we were unable to have a meaningful impact. We were outclassed in all respects and were unable to respond in any kind.

We must remain consistent in order to avoid losing games after having strong performances in others. Since these errors are unavoidable for a 39-year-old with so much experience, Silva is not at fault and will have the opportunity to make atonement in the following game.
