Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea will recall Andrey Santos from Nottingham Forest in Janaury
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea are set to recall Andrey Santos back in January from his loan spell from Nottingham Forest after the midfielder made only one appearance in the season so far. He also participated in the EFL Cup, losing 1-0 to Burnley.
His tenure with Steve Cooper’s team may be coming to an end due to a lack of playing time. Santos was sent on loan by Chelsea in the hopes of gaining experience to help him settle into the Premier League and progress.
However, that hasn’t been the case, and now the Mauricio Pochettino side will recall the midfielder by activating the break clause in his contract. It is also understood that Strasbourg are keen on taking him for the second half of the season. Reports also suggest that Chelsea are yet to notify Forest of their plan to bring Santos back to the club in January.
The Blues bought Santos from Vasco da Gama after his impressive performance in the U21 Copa America. The 19-year-old couldn’t join the club due to a visa issue.
He participated in the pre-season in the USA before joining Forest on loan. But things have turned different, and Santos will hope that his development doesn’t deteriorate.
He hasn’t appeared more than once this season, which is concerning because he is a gifted player and is wasting his talent on the bench. We are halfway through the season. It would therefore make sense to send him back to a different team where he will receive enough playing time, or we could keep him, but at this point, we have a lot of midfielders who have taken his place.

Given Strasbourg’s interest in taking him, we can lend him to the Ligue 1 club and he can pair up with fellow countryman Angelo Gabriel. We’re not sure if he will play, and it will be risky to have him at Forest because he could sit out the entire season.
