Chelsea express interest in signing Real Betis starlet Assane Diao

Chelsea have targeted La Liga emerging star Assane Diao. The club has spoken to his family about a transfer to West London and a potential move is on the cards.

According to Estadio Deportivo, (h/t Express), Chelsea have already talked to his family, and the club and the player’s agent are currently in preliminary talks.

This comes after the 18-year-old’s impressive performance, where he produced two goals in seven La Liga matches, which has piqued the Blues’ interest.

Betis are aware of the club’s interest and would want to make as much profit from his exit and now are trying to enhance his price tag, which is currently £30 million.

Besides Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also keeping an eye on the youngster’s performance, and the Blues will face competition for his signing.

The interest Chelsea have had in signing young players began when Todd Boehly assumed ownership. The American businessman wants the club to have a large number of young, exceptionally talented players.

The Blues already invested in a La Liga player last summer after they bought Nicolas Jackson and will once again go for another forward in the next transfer period.

Chelsea’s forward line on the left wing currently looks stacked, and they should be sorted without adding another one. If Mauricio Pochettino wants one, then he should also have his say in the transfer window because he is the one who will have to give players game time. Chelsea have Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku occupying the left flank.

The board’s desire to sign such outstanding young players makes sense, but it’s acceptable if we don’t sign every youngster. However, since the board has spoken to his family and they are in negotiations with his agent, a move might be feasible. It is unclear, though, whether these discussions will result in any progress.
