Chelsea are in danger of facing points deduction if found guilty of making secret payment under Roman Abramovich

Chelsea could suffer a points deduction if found guilty of breaching Premier League rules after they made secret transfer-related payments under Roman Abramovich.

According to the Times, the Premier League is now investigating the signing of Willian and Samuel Eto’o by Chelsea in 2013. Willian was acquired for £30 million from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, while Eto’o was signed as a free agent.

On August 9, it was disclosed that the Premier League is looking into the expenditure made by the Blues in millions of pounds between 2012 and 2019.

Records reveal that the payments have been made to ‘Russian entities’ separate from any transfer fee. After taking over the club, Todd Bohely himself raised the issue, which saw Chelsea report it to the FA, Premier League, and UEFA.

It was a good move from our current manager to report this issue to the league because, had they found themselves, there would have been bad outcomes.

Following their acquisition, the players didn’t know ‘about secretive offshore companies’, and it is understood that the payment was sent to the player’s family. The club also released a statement during the investigation, (h/t Football.London) which read:

“These allegations predate the club’s current ownership. They concern entities that were allegedly controlled by the club’s former owner and do not relate to any individual who is presently at the club.”

The owners made a wise decision by reporting the problem to the league since it may have had negative consequences and no one would want the league authorities to discover it on their own. But it looks like we might still be subject to fines, as previously indicated. We might lose points, which would be detrimental considering our current league ranking of eleventh.

Hopefully, the league overlooks our misbehaviour and extends its tolerance. However, it appears improbable that there are going to be any restorations.
