A View From The Bridge

Chelsea board have decided against signing 24-year-old striker target in January

Chelsea board have decided to not sign Victor Osimhen in January

Chelsea are unlikely to sign Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window, as owner Todd Boehly doesn’t want to invest a hefty sum in the Nigerian striker’s signing.

According to Football.London, (h/t Mirror) Boehly wants to reinforce the club’s striking quality, and Osimhen won’t be their priority acquisition as the Blues have listed Ivan Toney as a potential option for January signing.

The Nigerian striker, who has been valued at around £100 million, could change Chelsea’s approach towards him as the Blues want to avoid spending a huge fortune.

The club’s lack of potency in front of the goal has been evident, and signing a top striker remains on their list, and the club board has acknowledged that.

Nicolas Jackson seems to have shown signs of remaining consistent in front of the goal after registering four goals in his last two games. Meanwhile, we also have Christopher Nkunku, who is currently out injured.

If Jackson continues to score goals, then Chelsea may go without signing an established striker in January, and the return of Nkunku will further change the club’s decision.

Chelsea have made Osimhen their top target because they believe he is the perfect striker who can solve their goal-scoring difficulties. However, they do not currently see him signing in January, so they will need to make a significant choice.

Jackson appears to be finding his goal-scoring form, and if he can keep up with his current level of consistency in front of the goal, we should not need Toney in January. After all, if Jackson is scoring goals for us and Nkunku, who is undoubtedly a reliable goal scorer, returns in December, why would we need Toney? It doesn’t make sense to spend so much money on Toney because he is approaching his 30s and is now valued at over £80 million.

If the team does pursue Osimhen, we can add extra cash and sign him the following summer. Chelsea should therefore reevaluate their choice since we need to resolve this complex situation.
