A View From The Bridge

Ben Jacobs confirms that Chelsea will hold off on move for stellar African goal scorer until next summer

Ben Jacobs confirms Chelsea are in huge conundrum over the signing Victor Osimhen

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reveals Chelsea could wait for Victor Osimhen until next summer before making a move for his services. The Blues appear unsure about making a move for the Nigerian next January, potentially laying the groundwork for a summer switch.

It is also confirmed that Osimhen is very unlikely to leave in the winter transfer window, and a summer move appears possible with a lower fee if Osimhen doesn’t extend his contract. While Napoli should still be expected to demand a bomb, their hold on negotiations might not be strong.

The Striker’s deal ends in 2025, and so far there hasn’t been any sign of extending his deal. If it doesn’t, then Napoli might have to put him up for sale, as they cannot risk losing him for free.

It is thought that the Napoli president could demand around €150 million or €160 million for the striker if the club decides to sell him. Jacobs gave more detailed insight into Chelsea’s links with Osimhen on his GiveMeSport:

“The indications have always been from Napoli sources that it is very unlikely he will be available in January. So then Chelsea, like others, I suppose, faces a conundrum: do you move in January or do you wait for Osimhen in the summer? And I think if Chelsea felt like they could get Osimhen, then they would wait. By next summer, the price will have dropped a little bit unless, obviously, Osimhen signs any kind of new deal at Napoli. Aurelio De Laurentiis has always tried for about €150m or €160m, and the reason for that is because he argues they paid Lille €80m for the player.”

Chelsea need a reliable goal scorer and Osimhen certainly meets that demand. Despite the asking price, there is little debate that Mauricio Pochettino’s side can fast track their evolution to a top tier side that can challenge for trophies across all fronts.

If so, we should hold off on signing Osimhen until the following summer transfer window, as rushing to get a striker could lead to missteps. Instead, we should evaluate the situation first. If he doesn’t extend his contract, we can acquire him for less money.

With Armando Broja as a backup, Nicolas Jackson has already shown signs of developing into a goal scorer. If he can maintain this form throughout the season, it will be tremendous for us to not look for a striker and make a move for the Nigerian forward next summer.

We have a long season ahead of us, so rather than considering a new signing, we should focus on seizing every opportunity and winning games. For now, it will come as a surprise should Osimhen end up moving to Stamford Bridge in January. But with Todd Boehly, we can never know.
