Chelsea reveal price tag of Romelu Lukaku as permanent move to AS Roma not ruled out
Chelsea seem to have finally found a permanent move for Romelu Lukaku, as the striker’s transfer to Serie A club Roma hasn’t been ruled out. The Blues also confirmed the €40 million price tag for the Belgian forward.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Fichajes), the sum could be high for the Jose Mourinho led side if Roma fail to clinch a Champions League spot next season.
But the former Everton striker isn’t short of suitors, as Saudi Arabia sides are also vying for his services. If the 30-year-old continues his current fine form, then Roma could make a permanent move that will satisfy both parties.
Chelsea obviously don’t want to permit another loan spell and hopefully see him out permanently by the end of this season, knowing he brought nothing but disappointment to the club.
His price tag might be a barrier, but if he maintains his present fruitful form, then other large clubs will undoubtedly come up to employ him. Lukaku has netted seven goals in eight of Roma’s matches in all competitions.
We ought to be asking for more given what we spent on him when we signed him in 2021, but no team has indicated that they would be willing to spend a respectable fee to sign him.
If Lukaku keeps up his stellar play, we can look to recoup more than €40 million, but it also depends on the teams’ willingness to shell out that much money for him. He doesn’t want Chelsea and if there are no alternatives then he might have to join a Saudi team.

It will largely depend on how well he performs, and so far under Mourinho, he has been impressive. So perhaps by the following summer transfer window, we can finally get rid of him.
