Richard Keys was discontent with Mauricio Pochettino’s attitude after Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal after the manager went to share some laughs with Arsenal goalkeeping coach Terry Mason.
The beIN Sports presenter said Pochettino should have been disappointed with the result after throwing away a 2-0 lead and should have gone straight down to the tunnel with his head down.
The London derby saw two big clubs fight for three points and settle for a point at the end. Pochettino’s side effortlessly outclassed Arsenal collectively. Chelsea took the lead in 15 minutes from a spot kick through Cole Palmer, and then Mykhaylo Mudryk doubled their lead in 48 minutes.
However, Roberto Sanchez’s mistake proved costly as Arsenal came from behind to level the score as both sides had to settle for a draw, and after the final whistle, both sides greeted each other.
Meanwhile, Pochettino was seen laughing with Terry Mason, which irked Richar Keys, (h/t Football.London) who slammed the manager and told beIN Sports:
“Am I the only one that’s got a problem with this? You’re the manager of a side two up that’s cruising until your keeper hands a way back into the game to the opposition, and you leave the field smiling and joking with the opposition goalkeeping coach.”
“Why can’t you get up off your seat, head down the tunnel, be angry that your team has thrown away two points, and let them know when you get in?”
We should have won the game, and it was frustrating that we wasted such a solid lead due to a careless error. Despite the outcome, we have significantly improved in performance, and that is what counts most. As long as we keep progressing, goals will eventually come and we witnessed that versus the Gunners.
Richards’ frustration is reasonable because many managers experience dissatisfaction when a two-goal lead is squandered this easily. However, since these are only modest gestures, let’s avoid making something major out of them. Pochettino is aware that the team is making progress and that it will only be a matter of time before we catch up with other major clubs on a sporting level.
