Steven Gerrard contacts Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to sound out an interest
Mauricio Pochettino is understood to be furious with Steven Gerrard after the former Liverpool midfielder contacted Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher over a possible move to Saudi Arabia.
According to Football Transfers, (h/t Express) Steven Gerrard contacted Conor Gallagher to work out a move to Al-Etiifaq in the January transfer window. But the midfielder has ‘flatly refused’ the approach and is hoping to become a fundamental part of the club under Pochettino.
The Chelsea manager was incensed by this and questioned Gerrard’s daring in attempting to sweep the midfielder from Stamford Bridge.
The approach is said to have angered Chelsea in the middle of the season. The Saudi sides managed to sign many top players across European clubs last summer.
Gerrard’s side Al-Etiifaq were also active during the summer transfer window and recruited the likes of Jordan Henderson, Demarai Grey, and Georginio Wijnaldum.
However, the former Liverpool midfielder club is still exploring some options and has set their sights on Gallagher, but he is certainly not going to leave his boyhood club.
Gallagher has started all the games under Pochettino this season and has shown excellent signs of improvement; he was also named captain in Chelsea’s game against AFC Wimbledon.
Conor Gallagher is unlikely to be moving from Chelsea to a Saudi Pro League team. He has established himself as the club’s primary player at the age of just 23 under Argentine management. We have seen a few youngsters leave their respective clubs for the Saudi League because of the huge salary they have been offered, and it has been a key part of luring them to Middle Eastern clubs.

Pochettino was incensed when Gerrard approached Gallagher because he had been convinced by the midfielder’s performance and definitely wanted to keep him in the team. Chelsea won’t be interested in selling Gallagher until a huge offer is made, which would clearly tempt the club.
