Chelsea duo Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling accused of ‘lack of leadership’
Chelsea stars Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling have come under scrutiny as they have been dubbed as non-influential players in the dressing room. It is understood that the Brazilian defender hasn’t stepped up like someone of his pedigree would have been expected to.
According to the Athletic (subscription required), (h/t Express), insiders from the dressing room have told the publication that Sterling and Silva haven’t been leading by example and a question has been raised: ‘How much is Silva showing he is a winner?”
Meanwhile, the Argentine manager has himself been criticised for his ‘limited tactical instruction’ to his forwards, which has been the main issue for the striker’s failure to score goals.
The Argentine manager has kept his method very basic and hasn’t been detailed about his approach, which has seen forwards find it hard to put the ball in the back of the net.
Their abysmal start to the new season has raised concern regarding the club’s transfer strategy and Pochettino’s philosophy. Injuries have also been another issue that has prevented the team from developing.
First, it’s important to consider how locker room conversations are being leaked to journalists when they are confidential and shouldn’t be because they occasionally involve everything from signings to game plans for the other matches.
We learn a lot from the claims, and we can only hope that this is only a rumour given that Sterling and Silva are top leaders and because we have seen them on the pitch. Both of them are important players for us and senior members of the team. Silva has demonstrated his leadership abilities by captaining teams like Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain. Even Chelsea for that matter have been captained by him on so many occasions.

Given that Pochettino’s team is young, it needs time to develop. Once the players begin to gel and feel at ease with his approach, the results are bound to come. We need to be patient and wait for that to happen.
