A View From The Bridge

Real Madrid standing firm on their valuation of Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea are set to cut their losses with Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea could record a huge loss if they sell Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid, who are not prepared to match his asking price.

According to the Sun, (h/t Express) Real are adamant aboutsigning the Spanish goalkeeper value and will not pay £17.5m (€20m) for Arrizabalaga, whose £200,000-a-week contract is set to expire in 2025.

The Blues are open to letting the former Athletic Bilbao keeper leave the club but could profit little from his exit as Todd Boehly is set to absorb the cost of Roman Abramovich’s error in the transfer market.

The 28-year-old became the most expensive goalkeeper when the Blues signed him from Athletic for £71.6m. He made a negligible impact during his time here.

However, if Chelsea allow Kepa to leave for a small sum, they will record a massive £50 million loss. Kepa has joined Real on a season-long loan spell after an injury to Thibaut Courtois, who is set to miss the entire season.

Following his loan move to Real, the Blues didn’t allow a buy-in option in the deal, and the Chelsea owner is set to permit the Spanish international to leave for Real. Meanwhile, the West Londoners signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion as Kepa’s competitor.

Chelsea need to question their dealings when signing players because we sometimes overpay the club when acquiring the players, and we have done it so many times, which isn’t good. This makes other clubs think that we are easy to convince into paying large sums for players. Kepa was never worth that much money after his performance in the Blues jersey.

We should be more practical when negotiating with the club for the signing of players. Now we are set to record a huge loss once Kepa leaves for Real. But if he performs well before the end of the season, then his price can increase slightly.
