Chelsea have the opportunity to pull off a transfer coup by securing Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos on a bargain deal as he ponders a Premier League move according to The Sun.
The German maestro will be available for a nominal fee in January if he remains unsigned beyond Christmas and Kroos is eager to experience England’s top-flight before retiring. At 33, Kroos still has the quality and experience to thrive in the right system. His vision and passing range would provide a huge boost to Mauricio Pochettino ‘s midfield options.
Chelsea have been struggling up front ever since the start of the season. Ever since Todd Boehly took over the reins from Roman Abramovich, the Blues have spent over £1 Billion in signing new players. However, this lavish spending has failed to yield subsequent results as the club continues to founder in mid-table.
Chelsea are going through a transitional period right now where they have chosen to let go of experienced players and are instead focusing on developing young players into world-class talents. But in doing so, the inexperienced young players at Stamford Bridge have no one to look up to except Thiago Silva.
In this space, Kroos would add experience, finesse, and intelligence at a cut-price rate the Blues can easily afford. The German is seeking a new challenge and hands the Blues a golden opportunity to enhance Pochettino’s squad. The German maestro would bring a winning mentality and composure on the ball to aid Chelsea’s rebuild.
Letting a four-time Champions League winner join a rival for peanuts would be unforgivable negligence on Chelsea’s part, especially given the lack of experience in our roster.
While getting used to the Premier League at the age of 33 may concern some, Kroos’ quick thinking and technique could overcome any physical limitations. Chelsea have focused on youth under Todd Boehly, but sage veterans like Thiago Silva prove their worth.
Kroos falls into that bracket – an elite operator with the know-how to impact a young squad. But all that shines might not be gold. Even the legendary Bastian Schweinsteiger struggled at Manchester United despite being a dominant presence for Bayern Munich. Surely, Kroos is a cut above.
Pochettino must lobby hard to win the race for the Real legend’s coveted signature. With Tottenham and Manchester City also lurking, Chelsea must sell their project to Kroos to seal a potential masterstroke. He might not be a long-term solution to our woes but his ability to make a difference in the middle of the park is unquestionable.
