Real Madrid are weighing up whether to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga permanently next summer, while reserve goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is reportedly growing increasingly ‘angry’ over his lack of playing time.

Lunin had hoped to get an extended run when Thibaut Courtois suffered a long-term knee injury earlier this season. But Madrid quickly moved to bring Kepa in on loan from Chelsea, with the Spaniard installed as the first-choice keeper at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is currently on loan to Real Madrid.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Lunin is now ‘angry’ at having missed a golden chance to establish himself and is considering a move away. The 24-year-old Ukrainian’s contract expires in 2024 and talks over an extension have stalled.

With Lunin’s future uncertain, Madrid are considering making 29-year-old Kepa’s stay permanent, per the report. Kepa has impressed since arriving from Chelsea and appears to have convinced boss Carlo Ancelotti. Unlike Courtois, Lunin has not been given a fair chance to compete for the number one jersey.

He has been limited to cup appearances even when Kepa was brought in to replace the injured Courtois. Lunin is said to be one of the lowest-paid first-team players at Madrid but wants an opportunity to shine before his deal runs out. We hope he rises to the challenge and displays a string of strong performances for Los Blancos.

With his path still blocked, the keeper is seeking a transfer away from the Bernabeu. Madrid now face a decision over their goalkeeping department with Courtois returning and Lunin’s deal expiring. The Spaniard does not appear to have a future at Stamford Bridge and it is in Chelsea’s best interests to end the relationship as soon as possible.

While it is difficult to see Kepa replace Courtois as the long-term first-choice starter, we hope his time in the Spanish capital proves to be a hit. Kepa’s stint at Chelsea has been more of a miss than a hit and a parting of the ways is the best way forward for all parties.
