Peter Crouch urges Chelsea to replace Nicolas Jackson with Ivan Toney
Former Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has urged Chelsea to sign an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson after the Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brentford and has namedropped Ivan Toney as a good choice.
Jackson was acquired from Villarreal for £29 million, and despite showing he was capable of leading Chelsea’s goalscoring responsibilities during pre-season, that hasn’t been the case in the Premier League.
Despite scoring just three goals in the entire competition, the Senegalese player has looked bleak in crucial moments. The 22-year-old was frequently discovered isolated and was unable to exert any influence against the bees.
If this continues, then the Blues might once again look for No. 9 in the January transfer window, and they have already targeted Ivan Toney and the Blues can afford his asking price given the Bees have slammed a decent price tag on him.
Peter Crouch feels Jackson isn’t the answer for Chelsea and has insisted they sign an upgrade on the former Villarreal striker, he said on TNT Sport (h/t Football.London):
“I like him; I think he’s good, but I don’t think he’s the answer. I think with Chelsea, as they did against Arsenal, I don’t think he’s the answer. I think they need a traditional No. 9; they’ve had Drogba as the main one in recent times, but now they’ve been linked with Ivan Toney. If they can go out and get him, then that’d be absolutely perfect for them because what they have around them is perfect.”
It’s obvious pundits and fans think Jackson isn’t the answer for Chelsea, which shouldn’t be an opinion; this is his first season, and we are too soon making assumptions considering he has come from a different league and he is just 22. Jackson possesses plenty of quality; the problem is that we give up on our player too easily. He needs time and trust from the manager.

If we sign Toney, he will be a huge improvement over Jackson, and this might lead to some healthy competition. When you are competing with someone for the starting spot, you’re bound to perform well in the game to maintain your place in the starting XI.
