Mauricio Pochettino reveals Mykhaylo Mudryk meant to score that goal, which seemed like a cross in the box, as Chelsea and Arsenal shared spoils in a 2-2 draw.
The Blues were 1-0 up in the 15th minute when Cole Palmer converted from the spot as they attempted to secure their third straight win in the Premier League.
Three minutes after the half, the Blues added another goal thanks to Mudryk, whose ambitious strike from the left flank caught goalie David Raya off guard and out of position.
The 22-year-old may have appeared to be attempting a cross, but surprisingly, it went past Raya, who didn’t expect the ball to land inside the net. The Argentinean manager also claimed that the former Shakhtar Donetsk goal was genuine. He made the following statement to BBC MOTD:
“Yes, [he meant it]. To be honest, he tried. It doesn’t mean that only he deserves the credit, but he knew the position of the keeper and that it was possible to score from that position. He needed his first goal at Stamford Bridge. He still needs to improve, but with this goal, I think he is going to be more confident in the future.”
That was goal satisfying to witness and nobody expected it would land straight into Arsenal’s net, and the player who scored makes the goal even more impressive given the Gunners were keen on signing him. If the goal was inadvertent, it doesn’t matter; what counts is that these little things give the player conviction to play well in every game, and Mudryk definitely needed it
He was impressive, and his pace troubled Arsenal. Additionally, his header that struck William Saliba’s hand earned us a penalty. When Pochettino claimed Mudryk still needed to improve, it could mean he needed to be more involved in the games because he is our greatest danger, and his lightning runs can wreak havoc on the defence of the opposing team.
