Liverpool send scouts to watch £100m-rated Chelsea target in action

Liverpool sent scouts to keep tabs on Chelsea target Victor Osimhen

Liverpool are now increasingly keen on signing Chelsea target Victor Osimhen after Jurgen Klopp sent scouts to see the striker’s performance against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in the Algarve over the past week.

According to the Sun, (h/t Metro), Osimhen barely played the entire game as he picked up a hamstring injury, disappointing Liverpool’s scouts. However, the 24-year-old remains one of Europe’s hottest properties.

As a result of a recent TikTok dispute that made fun of the striker who missed his penalty against Bologna, the Reds are looking to recruit a potent striker and are hoping to capitalise on Osimhen’s unpleasant relationship with Napoli. The reigning Serie A Golden Boot holder, Osimhen has proven his class consistently at the top level.

Mohamad Salah’s future has come to uncertainty after the striker was approached by Saudi sides, who are ready to offer a boatload of money to land the Egyptian forward. Should the Egyptian leave, the Reds will need someone who can make up for the winger’s goals.

Salah’s departure will affect Liverpool’s threat on attack, but they are already making contingency plans to land the Nigerian forward, despite having enough attacking options. However, the idea of swapping out a winger for a number nine when they already have Darwin Nunez is rather puzzling.

Meanwhile, the Blues have added Osimhen to their January transfer target as they seek to land the proven striker, who led Napoli to Scudetto last season. Napoli values Osimhen at around £100 million, which could see Chelsea and Liverpool once again indulge in transfer battles as they did for Moises Caicedo.

The 24-year-old striker’s contract with the club expires in 2025, and it is unknown if he will extend it. However, the recent TikTok issue could change his mind about doing so, giving Chelsea and Liverpool an incentive to compete for his services.

We have engaged in a bidding war with the Reds to acquire Caicedo. We have shown that we can go to any extent to sign our No. 1 target. But this time we need to be more practical and try to negotiate a cheaper price. We must first see whether Liverpool is prepared to match Napoli’s demand for Osimhen before deciding how to proceed.

Osimhen has been a long-term target of ours, much like Caicedo. He is an ideal striker for us, one who will promptly hit the ground running and give Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson some healthy competition.
