Cesare Casadei shared his sentiments about the time Chelsea approached him, admitting that he didn’t hesitate to accept their offer. The midfielder transitioned to West London from Inter Milan for a fee of £12 million.
Following his move, Casadei was loaned to Championship squad Reading to further acclimate to English football. He later represented Italy in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, steering his team to the finals where they were narrowly defeated by Uruguay.
Casadei’s remarkable performance in the World Cup earned him both the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards. Post-tournament, he rejoined Chelsea for a pre-season tour in the USA, before being loaned out again, this time to Championship contenders Leicester City.
Currently, the Foxes are strong contenders for promotion to the Premier League, leading the table with 30 points—two points clear of second-placed Ipswich Town and ten points ahead of third-placed Preston.
In his tenure with Leicester, the Italian midfielder has featured in nine games, scoring a crucial goal, and is optimistic about helping Leicester ascend to the Premier League. Reflecting on the moment Chelsea showed interest in him, the 20-year-old, in a conversation with Leicester City, expressed:
“Chelsea is a massive club; it’s a big one. I thought that moment could arrive just once in my life. When Chelsea came to me, I didn’t think at all, to be honest, because I just wanted to join them. I know how big Chelsea is, and for my development, I thought that was the best choice for me.”
Casadei’s influence was promptly felt at Leicester when he netted the decisive goal in a 2-1 triumph over Cardiff City. Since that pivotal moment, he has appeared in nine matches for the Foxes, proving his worth to the team. With Italian coach Enzo Maresca at the helm of Leicester City, Casadei is set to receive ample guidance as he matures and gears up for Chelsea’s forthcoming campaign.
While Chelsea boasts a robust midfield lineup, a convincing performance from Casadei could prompt Mauricio Pochettino to give the young talent a shot in the Premier League in the following season.
