“It’s not easy”- Chelsea superstar drops huge hint over potential retirement from football

Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva says he is nearing end of his career

When Silva arrived at Chelsea at the age of 36, the transfer raised many questions about why the Blues bought an old player. Fast forward to that: the Brazilian is 39 and is still a regular starter.

The former centre-defender for AC Milan has continued to play at the peak of his game and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. But now that he is older and we don’t know how long he can play, he will need to make a decision about his future soon.

In just a short time, he has become an elite centre-back at Chelsea and the Blues will also have to look for his replacement next summer if he decides to leave.

The centre-back himself said that his career is nearing an end, and he doesn’t know for how long he can continue. He further told Sky Italia, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano:

“The end of my career is getting closer… It’s not easy. You’ve got to think about when you want to retire, where you go as a final club, the family, and my kids playing at Chelsea. I’m just focused on enjoying my final year of contract at Chelsea. I don’t know what’s going to happen next year, but I’m very happy with my career.”

Even at 39 years old, Silva is still a top centre defender, so what he has accomplished is quite remarkable and deserves recognition. His service is still valuable to us, and we will have a difficult time replacing him when he leaves. Given that he is in the final year of his contract, (Transfermarkt) this may be his final season here. He has won numerous significant trophies in his little time here, and maybe he will win even more in the future.

We’re hoping that this campaign will be a fantastic way to say goodbye to him with a trophy if he decides to leave. He has earned it and established himself as one of the top centre-backs for the team.
