A View From The Bridge

“It’s not a bad thing”- Pundit gives verdict on Sterling and Palmer arguing over taking penalty for Chelsea vs Arsenal

Ian Wright says Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling were in healthy argument for taking penalty

Ian Wright shared his thoughts on Cole Palmer arguing with Raheem Sterling to take the penalty and revealed it will soon come in a good way for Chelsea.

The former Manchester City duo were seen disputing a penalty after a Mykhaylo Mudryk header struck William Saliba’s hand. Palmer stepped to take the kick from the spot and coolly slotted it in the bottom left corner.

During their confrontation, Enzo Fernandez had to be involved to calm the tension and called for Palmer to take the penalty, and the summer signing didn’t disappoint with his spot-kick.

Both players hugged it out during the celebration, but many people might interpret this negatively and think that there might be other issues involving who will take the penalty.

However, former Arsenal legend Wright gave his verdict on the Sterling and Palmer disputes over the penalty, (h/t Mirror) and told Premier League Productions:

“I like that from Palmer, but I like the fact that the team came around to say, ‘Let him do it’. Raheem took it; he went over to celebrate with him [Palmer]. The thing is, Raheem looked a little bit disappointed at first, but then Fernandez came and said something, someone else came over and said something, and it’s done. They scored a penalty, and everyone celebrated together. It’s not a bad thing.”

Sterling, who is the most senior player of any of the players, initially assumed he would have the duty of taking penalties. Palmer, who also scored the last penalty in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory against Burnley, believed he should take the spot kick in this important game. The calmness with which the 21-year-old inserted the penalty was admirable, and we can expect him to become a regular penalty taker.

However, Mauricio Pochettino will have to make the decision as to who will take penalties for Chelsea since we cannot see players squabbling over such trivial matters.
