Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino talks about the performance of Raheem Sterling

Mauricio Pochettino channelled his inner Roy Keane when questioned about Raheem Sterling’s performance saying it’s his job as Chelsea secured a 4-1 win over Burnley.

Sterling was the game’s MVP because he launched the Blues’ comeback after they fell behind 1-0 in the 15th minute. Ameen Al Dakhil diverted the England international’s first cross into his own goal. He then gained a penalty, which Cole Palmer executed in the 50th minute, and 15 minutes later he finally scored his deserving goal.

One of the best players on the pitch, Sterling was vivacious and caused mayhem for the opposition by pushing the players forward, which led to the Blues’ dramatic comeback.

But when asked about his performance, Pochettino provided a very bold statement on the player’s display, (h/t Metro) and this is what the Argentine manager said:

”It’s his job, no? To play well. All players try to play well, and today he was well. He was involved in the goals, and I am so happy for him and so happy for the team.”

It’s not a big deal if Sterling doesn’t receive accolades for his performance since it’s part of what he does, and he should be putting up such a show in every game as an established player who has delivered such great performances while playing for Manchester City and Liverpool. Because of these performances, he will gradually feel more confident, and the upcoming international break will allow him to rest up. However, Sterling would have preferred club football to continue since it may help him gain momentum.

Given that we only have a few experienced players in our team and that our forthcoming games will be challenging, his performance will be crucial in helping new players learn and help the club in the long run.
