“It would have been a different story”- Pundit says Chelsea may not have lost to Brentford if this decision went their way

Frank Leboeuf says had Chelsea gotten penalty against Brentford the story would been different

Frank Leboeuf claimed that had Chelsea received a penalty against Brentford, the story would have been different for the Blues after they suffered a 2-0 loss against the Bees.

Playing against a low-block side that sits deep and defends with their entire team is always challenging because it’s always hard to break them down, and if you lose possession, they hit you on counterattack because half of your players are higher up the pitch.

Chelsea had three big chances to wrap the game up in the first half itself, but their lack of finishing touch cost the game. The Bees’ goals came through a header and then a counterattack when Robert Sanchez was in the opposition box.

Chelsea also had a penalty claim, which was waved off when Sterling was pushed in the box. It appeared that it was shoulder-to-shoulder but the former Manchester City forward was manhandled, and the referee didn’t even decide to take a Var check.

Pundit, Leboeuf felt it should have been a penalty during his conversation with ESPN and stated:

“If Sterling had had that penalty, it would have been a different story, maybe. Then Brentford would have to go out and try to score goals, which would have been easier for Chelsea.”

At first glance, it appeared it wasn’t a penalty, but if you look at it again, it was clearly a penalty because Sterling was pushed, and the referee should be aware of these sorts of decisions because their calls can affect the game. This season, we have witnessed such poor decisions by officials, which have affected the teams.

We had plenty of opportunities to make them count, so even if it wasn’t a penalty, we should have won the game. However, as usual, our lack of proficiency cost us in the end. We must not blow those simple opportunities because it is unacceptable and presents us as an inferior team in front of the goal.
