“I don’t know why”- Pundit ‘sure’ Mason Mount is regretting decision to leave Chelsea for Man United

Glen Johnson believes Mason Mount is regretting his decision to leave Chelsea for Manchester United

Glen Johnson believes that Mason Mount is also regretting his decision to leave Chelsea for Manchester United last summer. United, who finished fourth last season, have failed to replicate the same form despite addressing some of their weak areas under Erik Ten Hag.

They are just one place above Chelsea in 10th position with four wins in eight games in the new campaign, which wasn’t expected from them given the manner in which they finished last season with the Carabao Cup trophy.

Mount, who joined United alongside Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and Sofyan Amrabat, has yet to score a goal or provide an assist.

The midfielder opposed extending Chelsea’s contract last summer and campaigned for a transfer to United; as a result, the Blues were forced to sell their star academy player.

The 24-year-old has participated in four Premier League games and missed a few due to an injury. Now former Blues player Johnson feels the midfielder is already regretting his decision to join United, (h/t Express), as he told Betfred:

“At the moment, he will be regretting his decision to join Manchester United. “Manchester United are a very big football club, but you don’t join them with the expectation that you’re going to be part of a team that’s 10th in the Premier League.”

“You only want to go there to challenge for major honours, and I know that Chelsea aren’t in a better position at this very moment, but you don’t move to Old Trafford in the expectation that you’re going to struggle.”

Johnson is right here because many players who joined United presumed the club would challenge the likes of Manchester City for the title given their last season’s performance. This season they have lacked vision at the club, and most of their signings have been decent. They also don’t have enough depth in certain areas, which has affected their season as most of their regular starters are injured.

We were aware that Chelsea’s long-term project would take some time to bear fruit, but the squad has shown signs of making strides in its previous two victories under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Mount would have been the primary objective of this effort had he stayed here.
