“He’s mentally very strong”- Chelsea star reveals how Raheem Sterling has reacted to back-to-back England snubs

This is the second time Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has not been called up for the England squad

Chelsea have had a very mixed start to the season but one player who seems rejuvenated and wants to prove a point is Raheem Sterling. The Englishman has been ridiculed for way too long here at Stamford Bridge and understandably so, considering he did not live up to his reputation.

This season though, the wounded tiger seems more motivated than ever. Even when is not scoring or assisting, he is really putting a shift and is most often the best player on the pitch for the Blues. His performance against the Clarets just before the international break would deserve a separate article of its own.

It’s been a while since we have seen the dazzling winger who absolutely tore defences at Liverpool and his formative years at Manchester City. While we might never see that version of Sterling ever again, what we are seeing right now looks like a well-rounded player.

Conor Gallagher opens up about Raheem Sterling’s brilliant reaction to his back-to-back omission from the England squad. Despite enjoying a successful new season with Chelsea, Sterling has not found a place in the England squad for the months of September and October.

With three goals in eight games, the former Manchester City player leads the Blues in goals scored. His recent standout performance against Burnley might have persuaded Gareth Southgate to call the 28-year-old for Three Lions fixtures, but that call hasn’t come.

England are gearing up to face Australia in a friendly match and later Italy in Euro qualifiers as they aim to reach Euro 2024, hosted by Germany. Sterling’s inclusion would have helped him maintain his good form, preparing for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Arsenal.

Midfielder Gallagher has said, regarding how Sterling took his back-to-back omission brilliantly, (h/t Football. London) speaking to the BBC:

“[Sterling] is brilliant, a really nice guy, and a top player, of course; you see his career. He’s been really professional and a leader at Chelsea, so credit to him. He’s mentally very strong, and hopefully he can keep playing like he played against Burnley because he’s why we got that win. You need a bit of experience [in the squad], and when you’ve got young players in the squad, I think Raheem helps a lot of young players. He shows his experience and his qualities on the pitch, and he’s very appreciated at Chelsea.”

While Sterling might not be satisfied with his current exclusion from national team matches, if he maintains his current form, he will undoubtedly be considered for future England fixtures. Gallagher’s words ring true – Raheem Sterling remains a key figure in the squad, thanks to his wealth of experience and the positive influence he has on the club’s young players.

The young talents at Chelsea stand to gain immensely from Sterling’s experience, especially with the team’s limited number of veteran players. As we gear up to take on Arsenal in the next game, we can only hope that the former Manchester City player will be in prime form to lead our attacking line.
