Mauricio Pochettino said Robert Sanchez should work on his mistakes next Chelsea game
Mauricio Pochettino says Robert Sanchez has been calm after the goalkeeper came under heavy scrutiny following a poor mistake against Arsenal, which led to their goal, and ultimately the Gunners came from 2-0 behind to secure a 2-2 stalemate.
We were cruising to a 2-0 win over the Gunners, but his terrible pass to Declan Rice, who curled the ball into the empty net, gave Arsenal a lifeline. Sanchez has been brilliant between the sticks, and that mistake shouldn’t define his season because it would be too harsh on him.
The Spanish goalkeeper has started in all 11 games and has managed to keep four clean sheets, but sometimes the former Brighton & Hove Albion goalie has appeared unstable between the sticks.
This time Sanchez was in the spotlight following his massive blunder against Arsenal and faced an avalanche of criticism from the fans, (h/t Express) but Pochettino hasn’t had much to complain about and said:
“Robert is very relaxed, very calm. He is very good. We are there to try and help. We are helping him. He knows, we know, football is about mistakes.”
“The responsibility is with the whole team, and the coaching staff is the first. We transmit the idea of how we want to play. To blame someone is to blame us—myself—but not him. Robert is delivering what we want, and of course, maybe you can miss a penalty, or you can miss a pass.”
It was a horrible error on his part, and as a custodian with several years of Premier League experience, it shouldn’t have transpired. We were close to defeating an elite squad that was chasing the Premier League title, so if we had prevailed in that game, it would have been among our best victories of the season.

If Sanchez repeats the same error, Pochettino will have to use his other options, which may have an impact on the Spanish star’s position on the team. Sanchez will undoubtedly learn from that mistake and strive to rectify it in the next game.
