Bayern Munich target ‘very likely’ to leave Chelsea in January, says journo

Florian Plettenberg reveals that Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah is keen on moving to Bayern Munich in January

Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Bayern Munich remain interested in signing Chelsea outcast Trevoh Chalobah who is currently nursing an injury, ahead of the upcoming 2024 January transfer window.

Both Chelsea and Bayern are in contact with each other regarding the 24-year-old. As things stand, it seems very likely that he will leave Stamford Bridge in the January window. Having come close to calling it quits in the summer, it is fair to say that Chalobah does not feature high up on the Chelsea defensive roster.

The centre-back has become an unwanted figure at Chelsea and has yet to make a feature for the club after falling down in the pecking order. Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Wesely Fofana, and Axel Disasi remain ahead of the 24-year-old.

It is also understood that Chalobah is keen on joining Bayern, and ideas regarding a loan move with an option to buy are being discussed. But there haven’t been any concrete talks yet and it remains to be seen if it will pick up pace in the coming weeks..

Chelsea hoped to sell the centre-back last summer but failed to agree to a deal with Bayern as the Germans preferred to sign the centre-back on loan. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest had their bid of £25 million plus £5 million in add-ons approved by Chelsea, only for the player to reject the offer.

Now a winter transfer is very much on the cards, with Bayern once again emerging as favourites to land the player, and if the move transpires, Chalobah will be reunited with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena.

There he may attempt to reignite a career that earlier promised so much. Trevoh Chalobah now appears to grasp that his time in West London is done since he is open to moving and staying at Chelsea will only harm his talents. Leaving the Blues will only be a sensible decision for his career unless the situation at Stamford Bridge dramatically changes in the coming months.

Chalobah, who is only 24 years old, still has a long way to go before becoming a top centre-back. Tuchel brought several players back to prominence at a time when they were having performance issues. Mason Mount greatly benefited from Tuchel’s presence at Chelsea, and the same may be said of Chalobah if he joins Bayern Munich.
