Eredivisie club slap €100m price-tag on 22-year-old Chelsea and Real Madrid target

Santiago Gimenez is an option for Chelsea

Feyenoord place massive €100m valuation on their prized asset Santiago Gimenez

Feyenoord have reportedly placed a massive €100m valuation on striker Santiago Gimenez amid interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid according to ESPN.

The 22-year-old has been prolific since arriving in the Eredivisie from Mexico last year, scoring 38 goals across all competitions. After helping Feyenoord win the Dutch league title last season, Gimenez already has 15 goals in just 12 appearances this campaign.

His red-hot form has captured the attention of Chelsea and Los Blancos, who both need reinforcements up front.

However, Feyenoord won’t let their prized asset go away that easily, and in that regard they seem intent on holding out for a record-breaking €100m fee for the Mexican. While huge for an Eredivisie departure, that figure may not deter Chelsea given their lavish spending under Todd Boehly who have spent over £1BILLION in transfers.

Gimenez offers precisely what the misfiring Blues attack lacks – an instinctive penalty box predator. Mauricio Pochettino‘s young guns have struggled in the penalty box this season, having managed to score only five times in their first six Premier League matches.

They had finally started rectifying the mistakes following their 2-nil win over Fulham but Saturday’s defeat against Brentford has undermined their progress.

At 22 years of age, Gimenez is a tantalizing blend of elite scoring pedigree and long-term potential.

Should Chelsea buy Santiago Gimenez?

His blistering start to life in Dutch football suggests he could seamlessly make the step up to a European giant.

Spending €100m would carry risk, but Gimenez may be worth the outlay if Chelsea can structure a flexible, incentive-laden deal. With Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja out due to injury and the inexperienced Nicolas Jackson struggling, Chelsea definitely require a strong striker up-front.

With Chelsea’s current situation signing an experienced striker to guide the young Blues should have precedence. In this aspect, Osimhen and Toney would be a much better option than Gimenez. Especially Osimhen who has scored 65 times in 111 appearances for Napoli. His presence, eye for goal, and seemingly effortless link-up plays would be hugely beneficial for Pochettino.
