Evening Standard reporter Nizaar Kinsella confirmed Axel Disasi was fit to feature against Arsenal, but Chelsea didn’t deploy him due to precautionary measures.
The former AS Monaco centre-back was withdrawn from the France squad during the October international break due to a quad injury and also missed Chelsea’s game with Arsenal.
Disasi was signed as a replacement for Wesley Fofana, who picked up a knee injury before the start of the new season and is set to be out of action till the end of the season.
Since joining the Blues, the French centre-back has promptly become an integral part of the Chelsea backline alongside Thiago Silva and Levi Colwill and has starred in eight games for the Blues.
His absence against Arsenal saw Mauricio Pochettino revert back to a 4-4-3 formation with Silva and Levi operating as centre-backs and Marc Cucurell and Malo Gusto as fullbacks.
Disasi missing out against Arsenal isn’t a reason to be concerned, as journalist Nizaar Kinsella clarified why the France international didn’t participate in the London derby on his Spotify page, London is Blue, where he revealed:
“There is definitely nothing major. I think they could have played him in the last match against Arsenal, but they didn’t. He has never been injured for games before and never missed a game.”
We made a sensible decision in opting not to play Disasi because, given the current status of our injured players, we cannot risk any injuries to any of our players. We have enough defenders to cover for his position because of the depth of our squad, and now that Benoit Badiashile has also returned, In the defensive department, Pochettino will now have additional options.
The former Monaco star was signed abruptly but has adjusted quickly in the Premier League, and considering he doesn’t have any injury issues, he will be prepared to face Brentford in the forthcoming Saturday.
