Chelsea in a multi-club race to land 15-year-old MLS sensation

Chelsea to battle Manchester United and Real Madrid for Julian Hall

According to The Evening Standard (h/t The Daily Mail), Chelsea will face competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid among others for Julian Hall.

The 15-year-old is making waves in the United States of America after making his senior debut for New York Red Bulls off the bench. He is the second youngest debutant in the competition and has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time now.

Hall’s current contract with New York runs until 2026. His performances have attracted attention from several clubs, that also including Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Any hope Chelsea have of having a clear road is far from the truth.

The Blues were alerted to the youngster’s potential in April when Hall found the back of the net twice against them in an Under-15s Generation Adidas Cup match. The fact that he has now proceeded to make his senior debut shows that Hall is on the right path to realising his potential.

Chelsea have shown a propensity to bring in several talented youth from all across the world in recent years. Hall will fit in well with the ethos of Todd Boehly and the Chelsea COOwner should welcome bringing in an American sensation to the Bridge.

Todd Boehly is keen for a youth revolution at Chelsea.

Chelsea have been eyeing the player for six months now and their scouting trips appear to have convinced them to seek a trial for the youngster before he turns 16 in January. Whether it will result in a transfer being agreed remains to be seen.

Hall also holds a Polish passport making it a tad easier for him to move to Europe. However, neither New York nor the USA seem ready to lose the wonderkid. New York can prevent the player from undergoing a trial given the terms in the player’s new contract and can also demand a decent transfer fee.

Chelsea are building a multi-club model to create development pathways offered to young players. Their aim is to have a conveyor belt of talented players, making their way to the Stamford Bridge first XI. Hopefully, Hall too joins that list soon.
