Romano says Chelsea are ready to sell 30-year-old loanee for £37m next summer

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could join Italian giants AS Roma for £37m next summer transfer window

According to Fabrizio Romano via X, Chelsea have revealed their asking price for Romelu Lukaku next summer as he continues to impress on loan at Italian side AS Roma. The Blues are ready to sell the Belgian striker for £37 million.

There is already an agreement to make the striker available for that fee next year. The 30-year-old is currently enjoying a productive spell at Roma, scoring seven goals in eight matches for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The former Everton striker joined the Blues in 2021 from Inter Milan for a record-breaking fee but had a negligible impact, scoring just 15 goals before being loaned back to Inter, where he produced 14 goals for the Nerazzurri. Despite returning to Chelsea, he found little favour at Stamford Bridge.

It was thought the Belgian forward would join Inter permanently, but that wasn’t the case last summer. He started talks with Juventus, which saw an incensed Inter pull out of the race. Clearly the Belgian is adept at burning bridges.

However, Roma came knocking during the closing stage of the summer window and signed him on loan. The Jose Mourinho relationship played a key role in signing the centre-forward. Now the Blues will only hope that he continues his fine performance and they finally get rid of him, given that he has brought nothing but controversy to the club.

Given his recent form, Romelu Lukaku’s new asking price of roughly £37 million is a reasonable one for any club to pay. He should also be easy to sign. But if he scores 20 or more goals, other clubs might be willing to offer more money for the striker. For the time being, it remains to be seen, and hopefully, he will maintain his consistency throughout the season.

Lukaku is one of the best attackers in the world, as he has demonstrated numerous times. He has also played for Mourinho at Manchester United before, and the Portuguese coach will help him keep up his form as the Blues have no plans to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.
