Chelsea confirm injury setbacks for two English stars before Arsenal clash

Chelsea stars Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka suffer injury setbacks during training

Chelsea have confirmed Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka have sustained injury setbacks during training. The Blues revealed that Chukwuemeka felt pain in his knee after returning to full training after being sidelined for a few weeks.

Meanwhile, while they are yet to confirm Chalobah’s setback, it is feared that the centre-back could be out for the entire season with a thigh injury. The England U21 midfielder picked up a knee injury in a 3-1 defeat to West Ham United and has since been recuperating, but looks to be sidelined for more time after suffering an injury relapse.

The midfielder had successfully assimilated into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup, was showing promise as an instrumental player, and even scored his first Chelsea goal against the Hammers. However, that joy was short-lived thanks to the injury setback.

Chalobah was out before the start of the new campaign, and his Chelsea future is up in the air with Bayern Munich remaining a potential move in January. The Blues released a statement on the dual injury setbacks on their official website, (h/t Evening Standard), which read:

“Defender Trevoh Chalobah and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka have both suffered recent setbacks in their bid to return from respective injuries sustained earlier this season. The duo will now go under further review before continuing their rehabilitation at Cobham with the club’s medical staff.”

The loss of Chukwuemeka was felt; he significantly improved the level of our game. He brings flare and inventiveness and creates openings by moving the ball forward. Pochettino gave the 19-year-old a start in the first two games because he trusted in his ability, and the player delivered in both contests while also scoring his first Chelsea goal. A recurring injury setback is never good, and perhaps he was pushed into training before being properly examined to determine whether he was fit enough to resume practice.

Chalobah, in the meantime, appears to be sidelined for the duration of the season, and the centre-back’s future at Chelsea is also up in the air given that he has shown interest in leaving the team in January.
