Chelsea star Ben Chilwell claims he can’t catch a break after suffering a hamstring injury
Chelsea star Ben Chilwell has made his frustrations known after he picked up a hamstring injury that will now rule him out for the immediate future. The Englishman and is not expected back before December after he limped off in the second half of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup last month.
The 26-year-old has been handed a bigger role under Mauricio Pochettino both on and off the field. He was forming a solid understanding with Mykhaylo Mudryk on the left flank and this injury now could impact the rapport they were building.
Chilwell’s tike at Chelsea has been blighted with injuries. With the European Championship also drawing near, the lack of playing time could certainly impact the Chelsea star’s hopes of making the England squad.
More so, he is also likely to miss out on a big role on the field as Chelsea begin to find their feet under Pochettino. He took his frustration to Instagram and sent a message to the club’s supporters, (h/t Evening Standard) saying:
“I can’t catch a break. Believe me, I am more frustrated than you guys. All I can do now is help the team as best as I can from the sidelines until I can get back to giving everything for the club on the pitch again.”
“There are ups and downs, but that’s life. I just focused on getting this club back where it deserves to be. Thank you as always for the love, Chels fans.”
It’s unfortunate that Ben Chilwell has a history of ailments, and that the most recent one he sustained will keep him down until December. Given his injury history, it is worrisome for Chelsea in the long term. While his quality is not in question, it matters for little if the player is unavailable.
