Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is open to taking charge as the manager of Rangers

According to BBC, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is keen on becoming manager of Rangers following the dismissal of Michael Beale from the Ibrox hot seat.

Ranger sacked Beale after three defeats in their first seven Scottish Premiership matches of the season. Curiously, Lampard’s interim role at Chelsea ended with just one win in 11 matches.

A shot at a different league where the hype isn’t much compared to the Premier League would be better for the Englishman to resurrect his career. However, it will see him compared to former rival Steven Gerrard, who led the SPL side to a long awaited league title during his stint there.

The 45-year-old started his management career at Derby County in 2018 before becoming permanent head coach of Chelsea in 2019. Unfortunately it ended in heartbreak and he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Lampard’s next managerial stint came at Everton, where he saved them from relegation but failed to push on. He was ultimately sacked the next season after a run of nine losses in 12 league games. After that, he returned to Chelsea as a caretaker manager before Mauricio Pochettino was handed the reins full-time last summer.

The former England player will have a tremendous opportunity to put things right in a managerial role, and Rangers may be the perfect club for him to succeed in doing so. After all, his time at Chelsea and Everton aren’t flattering.

Frank Lampard’s history as a manager isn’t particularly great, and he has had a tumultuous tenure. His first season as Chelsea’s head coach was promising before things went south and he was eventually fired. It is clear that English top-flight clubs want fast results, and managers like Lampard need time to put their philosophies into practice. He has also been hampered by a lack of clarity.

Given that Rangers reached out to him, it is evident that he is still a pragmatic manager who is capable of managing a team. He is still young and has plenty of time to turn things around in his managerial career, so it would be good to start in another league before returning to the Premier League.
